Erector Set WaterPlant

Sometimes, a mod is a beautiful piece of simplistic art, like Nick's Yuugou. Other times, it's a gorgeous creation of acrylic and metal, like SleepStreamer's Cold Fusion. Whether it's hand-chiselled wood or beautifully sculpted aluminium, there's no doubt those cases are gorgeous and intricate.

Ah, where's the fun in that?

Enter dacust and his Erector Set WaterPlant. Take the old-school charm of those legendary childhood toys, and add in a splash of water cooling hardware (hopefully not literally a splash -- Ed.), and you have one of the most fun creations that I've seen on the forums in a while. It's pieces, parts, nuts and bolts galore as dacust builds a unique home for his water cooling gear.

Of course, it's only fun if it also lights up...



Dacust is a fan of the good old erector sets of old, and went onto Ebay to find as many of the old antique ones as he could. Of course, that usually gives you nothing more than a few boxes of dusty old parts. They required just a wee bit of organisation before they could be of any use...



The pumps in the water plant have been a bit of an issue... but that seems to be fixed now. The latest one is nestled into its rugged enclosure by foam padding - crude, but effective. Besides, would you want to listen to a pump rattling on a literal bucket of bolts and thin metal plates?



As you can see, dacust's true love is woodworking. He even made sure to show off his leet skillz to Greensabbath. With a comparison shot, you can see why dacust chose erector sets... pre-drilled holes have quite a few benefits.



A little bit of UV lighting goes a long way to showing off dacust's creation. Of course, thanks to some pretty smart design and creative use of the shadows naturally provided in his medium, it looks great day or night.

We'll definitely be keeping an eye on this one. What it lacks in smooth paint jobs it makes up for in creativity (and a little rust here and there), so be sure to check out his complete project log yourself.
